Singing in an Eisteddfod ("solo competition") is an opportunity for singers to put their learning into practice and gain valuable solo performance experience.
Entering an Eisteddfod also gives singers a "deadline" to work towards - encouraging them to fully prepare a piece and then present this to an audience. Singing for an audience is a VERY different experience to singing for your teacher or at home!
Singers also get to listen to (and meet!) other singers of the same/similar age, hear different repertoire and learn from others in this way.
COSTS for Eisteddfods include the entry fee and accompanist fees (where applicable).
Most "contemporary" singing sections in an Eisteddfod required the use of a backing track, so no accompanist fees apply to these.
Where live accompaniment is required (generally for classical singing sections), singers would also need to pay for a rehearsal with an accompanist. An "official accompanist" is one provided by the Eisteddfod and so a performance fee is not payable. However, if you need to bring along your own accompanist, you would need to pay them a "performance fee" on the day also. These fees are negotiated on a case-by-case basis with the specific accompanist.
Below is a list of (vocal) Eisteddfods being held NSW and the ACT for 2025.
